Relevant2RInterests Newsletter September 2024 Housekeeping! Hey
folks, so we’re doing our first-ever letter for the podcast!
We’re thinking of releasing a monthly newsletter to discuss some
of the stuff we don’t talk about much on the podcast, such as
personal stuff and other projects that we may have. It's
just a little way of updating everyone with what’s going on.
We’ve been on hiatus since May, and while we fully intended to
have had a new episode out by now, it just hasn’t been feasible.
John will catch you all up with what he wants to share in his
section, but one thing is, unfortunately, he had a case of COVID
that has just ruined his voice, and it’s very, very, very slowly
coming back. We’ve both had a rough summer. There’s been some
good stuff (for Frank, at least), but both John and I have had
to weather a pretty crappy summer season. We always intend to
take summer off, so a hiatus each summer will be the norm.
Hopefully, in the future, it won’t be so crappy. Summer Catch
Up: Frank So summer! Summers are rough for me. Some bad
memories, welded together with mild seasonal mood swings, make
it hard for me to focus on things. It’s one of the reasons we
opt to take summers off. That said, I managed to have an
okay-ish summer—some bad, but some good. So first, the bad.
Unfortunately, I had to say goodbye to my old man, Ruger Dadog.
Ruger came to me via a long-term relationship. After seven
years, she and I parted ways, and because she couldn’t take him,
he stayed with me. He and his small brother Bosco have been my
constant companions for the past three years. Ruger was, quite
honestly, one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever known, but he was
nearly 15 years old, so it was time. Someday, I’ll put together
a video compilation and share it with everyone. Remembering how
good a boy he was. Now for the good! I have set up a game room
in my home! I know this may seem like a minor thing, but it’s
something that I’ve wanted to do for decades. I still have a lot
of work to do, including building some proper shelves for my
gaming books -which will come next spring. The room has become a
happy place for me, and I spend a fair bit of time there. Having
it has motivated me to play more board games and TTRPGs. The
room still has work to do, as I've mentioned above, but
it’s usable, and I can’t wait to share it with all my friends
and you fine folks as well. Summer Catch Up: John Welp. This has
been a hell of a summer. Started out… ok? Just sort of stressful
but manageable. But then the Rube-Goldberg machine of divine
hatred or the boundless fury of an offended Elder God rained
upon me. I had relationship drama, some of it mine, some of it
from others. Issues with and for my brothers. My partner
shattered their elbow at their new job. So, I’ve had to add a
full-time caretaker and chauffeur to my resume. I had my
insurance stop paying for meds. I got Covid and not only missed
out on some incredibly important events but also have lost my
voice for over a month now. Oh… And there’s the big one. My dad
died—the human being who taught me to be patient and kind. I
spent weeks (nearly a month) planning a D&D game to play at
his celebration of life in his honor. And two days before, I had
to cancel it (the game, not the celebration) because I got
COVID. So It’s been a hell of a summer. And I’m hoping to move
forward from here. SEASON 2! So we’ve got some tentative plans
for season 2, including more interviews, hopefully, some
returning guests to chat about gaming, and some first-time
guests to chat about different films, TV shows, and comics. Our
first episode will be what we dub “John Hates What You Love.” In
these episodes, we dive into a property, and John (and Frank,
too) discuss our problems with it. We don’t pick the topis for
these episodes because we have a passionate hatred for them
(despite what the title states). We choose them because we have
a legitimate issue with things we consider worthwhile
properties, even if we don’t like them. Our first John Hates
What You Love episode will be on the series FireFly. We hope to
do at least one each season or possibly two. The whole season
will return to an every-two-week schedule. The plan is to do 13
to 14 episodes. In our first season, we released Throwback
Episodes between the semi-weekly new episodes. For our second
season, we’re not going to do that. We will still release a few
Throwback episodes throughout the season, but they will appear
on the schedule as part of our regular release. We're also
going to change our release date from Wednesdays to Fridays. Our
original goal was to release our first episode in the first part
of September. We’re now shooting for the second Friday in
October, so we hope you’ll join us!
